Visitors Driving in Victoria
If you are visiting Victoria and driving using your overseas licence, you must ensure you follow all Victorian road rules and regulations at all times. Your overseas licence must be current and valid.
If your licence is not in English, you are required to carry either:
- An official English translation, or
- A valid International Driving Permit (IDP)
This documentation must be carried with you whenever you are driving.

Permanent Residents Living in Victoria with an Overseas Licence
If you are living in Victoria permanently and driving on an overseas licence, you are generally allowed to drive for 6 months from the date you arrive in Victoria. After this period, you must convert your overseas licence to a Victorian licence.
The requirements for conversion depend on the country where your licence was issued.

In some cases, drivers from recognised countries may be exempt from certain testing requirements. However, you will still need to attend an appointment with VicRoads to complete the licence transfer process.
